Georgia Passes a Limited Paid Sick Leave Law

Friday, July 28, 2017

Georgia has passed a new law effective July 1, 2017, which applies to employers with at least 25 employees. The law defines “employee” as an individual who works at least 30 hours per week, and requires covered employers to allow eligible employees to use up to five days of sick leave to care for their immediate family members.

The law applies only to employers that choose to provide paid sick leave. The law does not create an obligation for employers to provide paid sick leave.
