The Department of Labor (DOL) provides elaws Advisors which are interactive e-tools with easy-to-understand information about federal employment laws. The format of the Advisor is a simulation of an interaction with an employment expert. It is a question and answer format which provides answers based on responses given.
One such Advisor is the Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) Advisor. It was created to help employees and employers understand their rights and responsibilities under the FMLA. The FMLA Advisor can help identify which employers are covered by the law, which employees are eligible for FMLA leave, what entitlements and benefits are provided under the law and in what situations FMLA leave may be used.
The FMLA Advisor reflects regulations effective January 16, 2009 and follows subsequent amendments to the FMLA.
The FMLA Advisor is intended to provide general guidance. If the Advisor does not provide the information which is needed, and there is a need for further assistance an employer or employee can contact the local Wage and Hour Division office.
